IRON
DEFICIENCY IS COMMON
The iron shortage is the most common deficiency disease
worldwide. It can be diagnosed quickly and easily with conventional blood
analysis and can be treated just as easily and speedily with iron infusions or with
iron capsules. The difficulty is recognizing an iron deficiency lifebloombeauty.
RISK GROUPS - WHO SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR IRON
STATUS
It mostly affects young women with heavy menstrual bleeding,
pregnant or breastfeeding women, and athletes, vegans and vegetarians, young
people and the elderly, and people after operations or blood loss. Iron
deficiency symptoms are manifold and can gradually, and unnoticed, become
increasingly unpleasant futuretechexpert.
MULTIPLE SYMPTOMS
·
Exhaustion, lack of energy, and depressed mood
·
Brittle fingernails and hair loss
·
Headache and difficulty concentrating
·
Susceptibility to infection
· Anemia and paleness
BLOOD ANALYSIS - THINK ALONG
If a doctor called in should take a blood count for the
above complaints and measure iron ferritin storage, then we are interested in
the result. The standard reference range for ferritin is 15-150 mg/dl for women
of fertile age. But be careful: if the ferritin value is in the lower normal
range, it is essential to think about the reference ranges' statistical
calculation and not be too hasty to be satisfied with statements like "iron
fits"! You are also welcome to read the blog entry about "Norm people
need norm values"!
FERRITIN> 50MG / DL DESIRABLE
From the point of view of a micronutrient specialist, there
are already some arguments in favor of empty iron stores and possibly also an
iron deficiency syndrome from a ferritin value of <50 mg/dl and otherwise
normal blood parameters.
RECOMMENDED DAILY INTAKE 14MG
The recommended daily intake is 14mg. Conventional iron
supplements are taken on an empty stomach ½ hour before breakfast to improve
absorption. This is not necessary with iron from plant sources such as the
curry leaf plant.
IF WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS OF NO USE, THEN DO SOMETHING
ELSE
The prescription iron-containing medicines usually contain a
very high dose of 80 to 104 mg iron. That is a multiple of the recommended
daily intake, and unfortunately, these preparations are not pure substances but
instead peppered with additives. Also, with such high doses, a kind of firewall
is set up in the intestine to protect the body from an overdose. If taking the
popular preparations leads to side effects or if the iron value remains low, it
is always worth trying an excellent dietary supplement.
IRON AND ITS FRIENDS VITAMIN B12 AND FOLIC ACID
In addition to a bioavailable iron source in reasonable
doses, sensible iron supplements also contain vitamin B12 in its bioactive form
as methylcobalamin and folic acid as methyltetrahydrofolate acid. The absorbed
iron can thus be recycled.
I LOVE IRON
The two most common reasons I prescribe an iron infusion or
to define an iron preparation are female hair loss and lead, depressive
tiredness in my patients. While the fatigue disappears quickly after a short
intake, it takes up to 2 months after the start of iron supplementation for the
hair to grow back healthily. Still, the joy with the hair and my satisfaction
are even more remarkable.
